RAM Doubler (Connectix)
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
A dream come true for Macs that can’t accommodate any more RAM — and it doesn’t slow down the machine. The few applications it clashes with are usually games.
The extension uses the memory management unit (MMU) provided in Macs with a 68030 or better. It requires 4 M or more of RAM and 32-bit addressing — make sure the version you’re using is updated to match your system!
It doubles memory by:-
• Reallocating unused application memory — the white portions of the memory usage bars
in the ‘About this Macintosh’ window
• Compressing infrequently used RAM data — for example, startup software
• Swapping RAM data to and from hard disk
Only the last process really affects the Mac’s speed. File Mapping on a PowerMac actually reduces the memory needed for each application — and doubled RAM is still available!

Documents that use a Mac’s system font are displayed correctly on any machine — even those with a different system font.
SimpleText can record sound for up to 24 seconds and can speak text from a file when TTS software is present. It can also open QuickTime movies — the movie file’s Creator should be ttxt in order to open it from the Desktop.
